Study to report on gender-based violence in Pabbo IDP camp
What: Suffering in Silence: A Study of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Pabbo IDP Camp
When: Wednesday, 15 June 2005 / 11.00AM
Where: GUSCO (Gulu Support the Children Organisation) Conference Centre, Gulu
Who: The report will be launched in a ceremony attended by senior representatives of the Government of Uganda, diplomatic corps, UN agencies and non-governmental organisations, as well as national and international media.
The programme will include the following:
- Opening Remarks (UNICEF)
- Briefing Session – Research and findings; ongoing and recommended interventions
- Questions & Answers Session
- Keynote Remarks (Hon. Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development)
- Luncheon.
Why: The report will examine the causes and effects of, as well as interventions related to SGBV in the Pabbo camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The report was commissioned in September 2004 by the Gulu District Sub-Committee on SGBV, co-chaired by the District Community Service Department and UNICEF, to generate information to enable the Sub-Committee to identify the needs of the camp population and inform future interventions.
Pabbo IDP camp, created in 1986, has an approximate population of 67,000 including 48,000 women and children.
