NEW YORK, 27 October 2003 – UNICEF today marks 10 years of one of its hardest working and best-loved global Goodwill Ambassadors, Greek singer and songwriter Nana Mouskouri.
“Nana’s tireless work, the hundreds of acts of kindness and generosity she has made on behalf of children everywhere over the last ten years is proof that one person can make a difference,” said Carol Bellamy, UNICEF Executive Director. “We are profoundly grateful to Nana for her remarkable achievements and contributions.”
As Nana moves into her 10th year as Goodwill Ambassador, her ceaseless activities continue. She will be present as UNICEF celebrates the 50th anniversary of the appointment of the first Goodwill Ambassador, Comedian Danny Kaye, in a star-studded gala dinner in Los Angeles on 3 December 2003.
Since becoming a UNICEF Special Representative for the Performing Arts, Mouskouri has helped promote UNICEF fundraising and greeting card campaigns in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. She appeals to her audiences in concerts, television and press interviews to support UNICEF’s programmes for children. She has also made generous financial contributions to projects in Guatemala, Kenya, Uganda and Viet Nam.
