Child Protection Online

While the Internet has opened up our world to endless possibilities by revolutionising the way we communicate, learn and live, we have to also be aware of the dangers that lurk within.

As parents and carers, it is our duty to ensure that children can safely access the Internet and its valuable resources without fear of falling prey to unscrupulous predators in cyberspace.

The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission together with its partners have initiated Child Online Safety to help parents make cyberspace safe for their children. UNICEF supports this initiative organised in conjunction with World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2009.

The dangers and threats that children might encounter:

  • Cyber-bullying
  • Pornography
  • Violence
  • Racial abuse and hate
  • Online gaming & addiction
  • Online fraud & deception

Use these simple tips to help keep them safe:

  • Always get to know your child’s online habits.
  • Stay alert to any sudden changes in their mood, appearance, habits or increased secretiveness.
  • Let your child know they are free to talk to you about anything at any time.
  • Spend some time surfing the Internet yourself.
  • Install Internet filtering software on your computer.

Download the available resources on this site today to learn more about how you can make your children’s learning experience in cyberspace fun and safe.
