Trafficking

As part of a regional UNICEF initiative to combat trafficking in children, together with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development, in 2006 UNICEF undertook a study to assess the various dimensions of child trafficking in Malaysia, including the mode of trafficking.

UNICEF also entered into a strategic partnership with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) to create greater awareness of child trafficking amongst relevant Government agencies and officials.

Since 2004, several forums have been held for enforcement agencies, the judiciary, academia, NGOs, embassies, UN agencies and the media.
