HELP University College
HELP was founded in 1986 to provide affordable quality educational opportunities for Malaysians. In 2004, it was conferred University status by the Government in recognition of its educational excellence. HELP University College offers a wide and diverse range of programs. It has also assumed a leading role in research and development especially in psychology. UNICEF works with the University’s Centre for Psychology for programs in psychosocial support for children affected by the tsunami and a school bullying prevention program; and with the Asian Research Centre for Child and Adolescence Development for an after-school life-skills program for children from low-income families.
University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, formally established in 1970, is Malaysia’s third university and the first to use Bahasa Melayu, as the medium of instruction. Its Faculty of Education has directly and indirectly worked to change Malaysian society’s perception of children with special needs by innovative teaching methods to cultivate their unique strengths. The Faculty is nationally recognised as a pioneer and leader in the field of special education. UNICEF and the Faculty’s Centre for Studies in Learner Diversity are collaborating on research to identify the basic needs of marginalised children in Sabah and Sarawak.
