World Congress III: Sexual exploitation

© World Congress III

The "World Congress III Against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents" will take place from 25 to 28 November in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil and will gather more than 3,000 people from five continents, 300 of which will be adolescents.

The program theme is “The Guarantee of the Rights of Children and Adolescents and their Protection against Sexual Exploitation – for a Systemic Approach”.

The Congress will aim to move the international community to ensure the rights of children and adolescents to protection, in order to:

§ Analyse the new challenges and dimensions of sexual exploitation in present times

§ Identify advances and gaps in the legal framework and in accountability

§ Share experiences on the implementation of cross-sector policies to fight sexual exploitation of children and adolescents

§ Design possible strategies and goals that can be agreed in international cooperation

Throughout the three days of the event, there will be workshops, discussions and five panels:

§ Forms of Commercial Sexual Exploitation and its new scenarios

§ Legal Framework and Accountability

§ Integrated Cross-sector Policies

§ Initiatives of Social Responsibility

§ Strategies for International Cooperation

Apart from its articulating character and its capacity to gather knowledge on the subject, the event will result in important advices on how countries will fight the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents.

Brazil being chosen to host the event is an example of the international recognition of the advances in strategies adopted in the Country, which have now become a point of reference not only within Mercosur but also in the Ibero-American cooperation.

The First World Congress took place in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1996 and the Second one was in 2001, in Yokohama, Japan, where Brazil presented the outcomes of agreements established during the First World Congress and of actions carried out through the articulation between civil society and the public powers.
