Celebrating children, protecting their rights

Reporters who are aware of children’s rights will be able to balance the need to protect these rights against their own need to get a story, especially if such a story involves a child protection issue.

By attending to the rights of the child, reporters will be able to approach issues concerning children with due sensitivity, which will result in both good stories and positive changes for the child. The Principles and guidelines for ethical reporting on children under 18 years old is to support the best intentions of ethical reporters – serving the public's interest for truth without compromising the rights of children. Media Guide: All Rights for All Children
In conjunction with the 20th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF has produced a Media Guide: "All Rights for All Children” to help reporters better understand the CRC and how it can be used to advocate for children.

The Guide provides background information on the CRC, child protection laws in Malaysia and key challenges facing children in the country. It also contains tips on reporting on children and a directory of useful media resources.
