National Advisory CommitteeThe UNICEF Executive Board took the decision that once Governments reach a per capita income above US$2,895, combined with an under-five mortality rate of 30 per one thousand live births, this milestone will trigger a review by UNICEF and the Government of UNICEF Country Program and the funding relationship. In short, it signals that a new stage in the partnership is ready to unfold. Malaysia has achieved a GNI per capita of above US$ 2,895 and an under-five child mortality rate of less than 30 per one thousand live births. Malaysia’s rapid economic and social development and its success in meeting most of the Millennium Development Goals means it no longer requires the level of support from UNICEF as do less developed countries. The Government of Malaysia has agreed to partner with UNICEF in new funding arrangements that will sustain a continuous UNICEF presence once the UNICEF regular funds are reduced. In 2005, to continue cooperation with UNICEF, a UNICEF National Advisory Committee, comprising representatives from the Government agencies and NGOs, will review and recommend an alternative modality that will be implemented in a systematic and transparent manner, optimising available resources, after the completion of the current country program at the end of 2007. The Government of Malaysia’s south-south cooperation with multi lateral development partners will be enhanced.
