Blueprint for progress
End poverty by 2015. This is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the United Nations Millennium Summit held in New York in September 2000 when they signed onto the Millennium Declaration and agreed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for the advancement of humanity and the survival of humankind. Concurring that human development is key to sustaining social and economic progress in all countries, the leaders resolved, through the Millennium Declaration, to strengthen and promote global efforts for: The MDGs, eight goals with measurable targets and clear deadlines, was their road map for improving the lives of the world’s poorest people and our blueprint for building a better world for children in the 21st Century. World leaders agreed to achieve the MDGs by 2015.
