Conflict in Gaza
Children are bearing the brunt of the violence in Gaza and Israel since airstrikes began on 8 July. More than half of Gaza's population are children under the age of 18. The coastal enclave is under closure, making it difficult for civilians in Gaza to flee.

The escalating violence is having a devastating impact on children, the effects of which can last a lifetime as their sense of security is undermined. Children in Gaza are not sleeping and are having nightmares, children have stopped eating, and children are exhibiting harrowing signs of mental distress.
Some 140 schools have been damaged by shelling; much of the city is without power; and the public health system is on the verge of collapse, increasing the threat of water-borne diseases.
No child should have to suffer the terrifying impact of such violence. UNICEF is appealing for US$ 14.3 million to respond to the humanitarian needs of children and their families in the State of Palestine. Funds will be used to provide clean water, address sanitation and hygiene, provide medical supplies and counseling for children.
