World AIDS Day event to mobilise women to Unite for an AIDS-free generationMEDIA INVITATION What: • Launch of the Ministry of Health and UNICEF Report 2008: • Premiere of “Women Unite” – A UNICEF Malaysia When: Who: • YBhg Dato’ Dr Hasan bin Abdul Rahman • Mr. Youssouf Oomar Where: Why: As the number of HIV infections rise among women, it is their children who will suffer the most, as they may be born HIV-positive or may lose their mothers to AIDS too early in life. The vulnerability of children and women increases manifold as a result of stigma and discrimination in society. All relevant stakeholders have a responsibility to address the increasing feminisation of HIV in Malaysia, by reducing discrimination and enhancing the protective environment for women and children. The Ministry of Health, civil society, UNICEF and its sister agencies are working together to respond to the feminisation of HIV in priority areas identified in Strategy 4 of the National Strategic Plan 2006-2010, which focuses on reducing vulnerability among women, young people and children. ......................................................................................... NOTE TO EDITORS: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) invites a journalist and photographer / TV crew from your media agency to attend our World AIDS Day brunch to advocate for greater responsibility from all sectors of society to address the increasing feminisation of HIV in Malaysia. This is a sit-down served breakfast program. For more information: Indra Nadchatram, UNICEF Malaysia Shiao Eek, Tee, UNICEF Malaysia
