eclipse celebrates 10-years of fashion allure with Motorola for UNICEF
KUALA LUMPUR, 2 September 2006 – Celebrating success with panache and generosity, eclipse founder and renown Malaysian fashion designer Sonny San recently observed the company’s 10th Anniversary with "Desire – the Fashion Party", together with project partner, Motorola. With a mesmerising blend of music, fashion and style, “Desire” unveiled the company’s three-month fundraising campaign in support of UNICEF Malaysia.
Titled “Designed for eclipse – Designers Unite for UNICEF”, the collaborative fashion-for-aid effort features top Malaysian designers Tom Abang Saufi, Khoon Hooi and Gillian Hung who have each created an exclusive limited collection of shoes and handbags for the campaign. The limited collection is available for purchase at eclipse outlets with all proceeds from the sale of the collection going towards UNICEF Malaysia’s “Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS” campaign.
“10 is such an iconic number. With such a momentous occasion, we wanted our anniversary celebration to be one with a bang and a purpose – one that combines elegance and entertainment with social responsibility, so that at the end of the day, we are able to do our own individual bit in helping to make the world a better place,” said San who is eclipse designer and Managing Director.
Working together for children
The five-year global AIDS campaign by UNICEF is designed to alert the world to the reality that HIV/AIDS is robbing millions of children of their childhood and threatening their future prospects. For three months between September and November 2006, eclipse customers will be able to purchase fabulous shoes and handbags -- and know that their purchase has directly helped UNICEF Malaysia.
According to eclipse and Motorola's special guest for the evening, Gaye Phillips who is also UNICEF’s Representative to Malaysia, AIDS is redefining the very meaning of childhood for millions of children -- depriving them of care and love of their parents, of an education and a future and protection against exploitation.
“We must all work together to ensure that the needs of children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS are at the centre of the global agenda. If we can move forward past our fears and prejudices, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of children right now and change the trajectory of HIV/AIDS for generations to come,” added Phillips.
Desire – the Fashion PartyTo kick start the fashion party, eclipse presented the much anticipated, first ever LUXE collection. The spectacular fashion show displayed the 50 piece, limited edition, prêt a couture eclipse LUXE collection by Sonny San. Adding a dramatic flair to the night, eclipse auctioned off ten pieces of its "10 years of Allure" archive collection. Supporting UNICEF for the auction was Motorola who provided a Swarovski MOTORAZR V3i and a Swarovski MOTORAZR V3i Dolce and Gabbana mobile phone as well as four MOTORAZR V3i phones with customised decorations created especially by the four “Designed for eclipse” designers - Sonny San, Tom Abang Saufi, Gillian Hung and Khoon Hooi.
Keeping the crowd pumped and primed for the charity party were world renowned DJs from Australia - DJ Neal Crawford and DJ Steve Alkins who were specially flown in courtesy of Motorola.
“We are delighted to be supporting UNICEF and the burgeoning Malaysian fashion industry. For once, “giving in to Desire” will be an indulgence that will go towards a perfectly good cause as proceeds from all the auctioned pieces shall go towards UNICEF’s “Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS” campaign", said Zulkifli Mat Jusoh, Marketing Manager for Motorola Mobile Devices.
