Writer/ Copy Editor (NO-C/L-3)In an effort to raise awareness and understanding of the impact the United Nations has had (and continues to have) in Malaysia, the United Nations Communications Group (UNCG) was assigned to produce a booklet on the United Nations in Malaysia.
Under the supervision of the Chair of the UNCG, the consultancy's key responsibilities include:
§ Copy editing and rewriting, the current draft document to maintain accuracy while also making it more readable for disparate audiences unfamiliar with the United Nations' work
§ Ensuring the text is accurate and, importantly, reflects the substantive significance of the contribution of the United Nations in Malaysia
§ Working with a publisher on layout and editing proofs in a timely way, to produce the printed booklet
§ Working with the UNCG and UN agencies in Malaysia to identify images and graphs, as necessary, for an appropriate layout
§ This is not an office based position
§ timely completion of first draft by September 9th
§ timely completion of 2nd draft by September 20th
§ identify photos and graphs for publication (delivered to publisher no later than Sept 9th)
§ work with publisher on layout
§ check proofs and incorporate into final/approved layout by Sept 27th
Key competencies and experience
§ Master's Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Human Rights, International Law and or Human Rights or Development, or similar (relevant) field.
§ Minimum 7 years of substantial experience in communication/media/marketing, preferably linked to UN-specific work, or at international level in the development or multilateral sectors
§ Knowledge of and familiarity with the UN system and its relevant agencies
§ Experience in journalism or writing research and writing papers
§ Excellent English writing skills
§ Good analytical skills.
§ Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to promote collaboration and consensus building
§ Must own personal computer/laptop and have access to the internet.
Successful candidates will be offered an attractive remuneration at the NO-C/L-3 level under the UN system.
