Across the world, the number of deaths among children under 5 has been on a continuous decline for over two decades.
According to the latest data released by UNICEF, the number of children under the age of 5 dying globally has dropped from nearly 12 million in 1990 to an estimated 6.9 million in 2011, thanks to the work and dedication of many, including governments, donors, agencies and families.
However, despite the millions of lives saved, almost 19,000 children under 5 still die every day from diseases that are preventable.
But we have good news. For the first time in history, we have the available knowledge, technical expertise, tools and technologies to reach the world's most marginalised children. So let's redouble our efforts to put an end to preventable child deaths, further reduce child and maternal mortality and ensure these initiatives are sustainable in the future.
Show your support and let's join hands to achieve a goal to give every child the best possible start in life. With A Promise Renewed, all partners pledge to take action to end preventable child deaths.
