No to violence!Children are not for hitting
Every day, violence invades the lives of millions of children around the world, including in Malaysia. These children suffer violence that includes physical and psychological violence as well as neglect and deprivation. Because such violence is more often committed by those duty bound to protect children, it remains a largely hidden phenomenon. The millions of children who are victims of violence each year are proof that the world has failed to protect them. The abuse of a child is a contravention of their rights. It may however also be a major obstacle in their healthy development and the wellbeing and stability of societies. Hitting people is wrong – and children are people too. § Every child has the right to grow up safe from harm, abuse and violence. § Children must be protected from the effects of domestic violence and supported in healing following exposure to this violence. § Corporal punishment of children breaches their basic rights to respect for their human dignity and physical integrity. Its legality breaches their right to equal protection under the law. § Children who break the law should not be treated cruelly. § Urgent action is needed to respect full the rights of all children, and end all forms of violence against them. We can stop violence against children! § Every individual can do their part to end violence against children. § We need to break the silence and challenge social acceptance of violence against children. § Each of us can speak out and raise awareness that violence is not accepted and must end. The World Report Violence against children has to stop.
