The overall goal of the 2012 - 2016 Country programme is to support national efforts to progressively realise children’s and women’s rights through improved child survival, development, protection and participation.

Health and Nutrition

The purpose of the survival component is to ensure that all children in Malawi reach their 5th birthday and thereafter grow and realize their full potential.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion

UNICEF Malawi supports the Government of Malawi to provide safe water and improved sanitation; and in promoting hygiene practices in rural and peri-urban communities and schools.

Basic Education and Youth Development

Early childhood and adolescent development, basic quality education for all, participation by children and young people in matters of national interest, and prevention of HIV/AIDS among adolescents.

Orphans and other Vulnerable children and child protection

Supporting the Government to develop a National Child Protection System. Moreover, UNICEF recognizes social protection as a fundamental right for children.
