Background
"Kids Love" was launched by the CBFA
as part of their event "Celebrating 10 Years of Quality Children's
Media" at
the WIKID Exhibition on 17-19 September 17-19, 2004.
The main
output of the project will be a series of nine 5-minute TV programmes
around the following topics:
"Images of war and strife, HIV-AIDS,
children in armed conflict, with guns,
dying, crying – diseased, abused, alone… always
suffering, always pain - when will this end, when will we heal these
tender souls?" - in an effort to quell these images of bare-bottomed,
running nose, screaming children, SABC 2 and CBFA will run a
series of short stories about love… written produced by children
aged between 11-13 years."
Aims
of the project
To see through the eyes of children images of
love, creating a metaphor of hope and the possibility to live in
peace. Also:
-
to offer media literacy as a option to children

facilitate the production capacity of child producers by offering
skills in television production
-
to encourage research and
writing that leads to scripting for television programmes made
for and by children

Target audience & Involvement
of children
The participants will be part of 200 children
invited by the CBFA in partnership with SABC 2 for the WIKID Workshops
facilitated by CBFA. A group of 40 children will be selected to
write love stories. SABC 2 and CBFA will select the best stories
for production for 2005.
Special Features
The workshop will offer the SABC 2 an opportunity to inter-act
with children who are on the periphery of South African society – but
who are full of energy, enthusiasm and love. The inter-action
amongst these 200 children will offer a rare occasion for children
of all races, creeds and social positions to mix and learn from
each other. This event will encourage dialogue and research that
will enhance the project’s scope. The children are the
catalyst for this exciting series and their participation will
be the key to the success of the project.
