Aims and objectives
The CMC works in audio-visual and print media and its work
is done exclusively by children and young people themselves.
The project is aimed at the creation of the conditions for the child’s
self-expression. The members of the CMC study the problems faced by children
and young people in Kyrgyzstan and evaluate their observations from their own
point of view. In addition to that, they spread information about child rights
in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The CMC members work on many different topics highlighting the problems of youth,
including child protection, gender issues and HIV/AIDS. The CMC has produced
videos and print media articles about homeless kids, HIV infected people and
women’s rights violations.
Participants
Children and adolescents from Kyrgyzstan with
a focus on the age group 14-18. However, everybody from 13 to 20
years of age can become a member of the CMC. Most CMC members
are urban youth froma variety of different socio-economic backgrounds.
Membership in the CMC member is free and gives young people the
opportunity to become an active part of the countries media and
the opinion making process in Central Asia.
Target audience
Children and young people in Kyrgyzstan, but also adults interested
in the views and opinions of the younger generation.
Wider beneficiaries
Giving young people an opportunity to become an active part of
society by granting them access to the media will gradually strengthen
civil society and, most importantly, strengthen the role of children
and youth throughout the region.
Involvement of children
Children and young people are the main characters in the project.
They write the articles for the CMC print magazine Neboscreb (Skyscraper)
and also produce the TV footage for the TV magazine of the same
name. The project is coordinated by adults, but the youngsters
do all the editorial work.

The main strength of the project is the fact that
the opinions in the media products of the CMC are the authentic
voices of young
people.
