Supporting strategies

Life skills-based education will work best where it is reinforced by a range of complementary and consistent strategies, such as national and school-level policy, access to related health services, community participation, and media & communications strategies. More sustainable outcomes can be achieved by multiple, coordinated strategies than with any single intervention. For example, each of the following global initiatives promotes skills-based education as an important means to reach its goals:

At the school level, life skills-based education is just one determinant of school quality, and will be most effective if used as part of a broader school effort, to contribute to the implementation of FRESH, the creation of a Health-Promoting and Child-Friendly School, and ultimately the goals of Education for All.

If you have already started to work toward one of these larger efforts, life skills-based education can complement the actions you have already made. If life skills-based education is your first effort, consider it a step toward one of these larger goals.
