An estimated 35 million children do not enter any educational program.

Region wide, 83% of children reach the fifth grade, and of those students an average of 5.6% must repeat at least one grade level. Children from poor families are six times less likely to receive full primary education compared to wealthy families.

UNICEF supports governments and community-based initiatives that guarantee access to school and provide training on strategies to improve the quality of education and improve learning, reduce repetition and dropout rates and help increase the participation of families and communities in schools.
