Practical Exercise: Status of children quiz

INTRODUCTION (for Tutors)

This is not an exclusive list. These are all questions that have been raised by working journalists attending training courses about reporting children.

Trainers may wish to add others, but NONE of should be excluded from the QUIZ, since they refer to information that journalist may need to know.

In some cases it may be necessary to modify the wording for the sake of clarity.

When students are asked to find the answers to these questions, the important issue is not that they need to KNOW all the answers, but they know WHERE TO FIND the answers quickly, should the need arise.

This part of the purpose of the exercise. They should be adding useful sources of information to their CONTACT BOOKS.

PLEASE ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS and indicate WHERE you obtained the information.

Some may have not have a simple ‘correct’ answer. Use your research skills to find authoritative answers – through books, lawyers, experts or websites. Add the details of any useful contacts you make to your CONTACT BOOK.
