Books handing over
More than 100,000 textbooks and 10,000 teacher manuals on the Russian Language and Literature handed over in Bishkek and Osh for all the schools in Kyrgyzstan
September 3, 2013, the Kyrgyz Republic – At secondary school-gymnasium No. 67 of Bishkek (16, Bokonbaev Str.), the Russian Embassy and UNICEF officially handed over more than 100,000 textbooks of Russian Language and Literature for all Grade 3 schoolchildren in the Republic and 10,000 teacher manuals for school administrations. The total value of the printed materials is about USD 500,000.
The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Andrey Krut’ko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kyrgyz Republic, Ms. Dokturgul Kendirbaeva, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sport Natalia Nikitenko,UNICEF Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Jonathan Veitch, Departments of Education, partners on development in education, teachers and parents to the schoolchildren.
A suchlike ceremony also took place in Osh at school-gymnasium No. 4 named after Kirov (311, Lenin Street) in the presence of Mr. Sergey Barsukov, General Consul of the Russian Federation in Osh, Mr. Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Governor of Osh province, Mr. Melisbek Myrzakmatov, Mayor of Osh-city, Mr. Benjamin Fisher, Head of UNICEF Office in Osh, and other guests.
“We hope that these textbooks will contribute to emerging multilingual and multicultural education highlighted in the Education Development Strategy 2012-2020, which will help to develop common civic identity; and we support linguistic and cultural diversity as a source for the sustainable society development”, stated Mr. Jonathan Veitch, UNICEF Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Within September 2013, the textbooks and teacher manuals will be delivered to schools in all regions of Kyrgyzstan through the District and Municipal Departments of Education. Moreover, through the regional educational institutions and methodical centers, the Kyrgyz Academy of Education will hold short-term training workshops for teachers of junior classes on the methodology of teaching the Russian Language and Reading Lessons based on the new manuals.
This project is a continuation of the partnership between UNICEF and the Government of the Russian Federation which began after the 2010 emergency in southern Kyrgyzstan. It will be followed by a new initiative to ensure safe sanitary and hygiene conditions in schools of Kyrgyzstan in 2013-2015.
