July 2007, Making Statistics Interesting, Colourful, Attractive, and Useful
The National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan is organizing a three-day workshop for its specialists on how to make “dry” statistical data interesting, colourful, attractive, and useful on 13-16 August, 2007, with assistance from UNICEF. Twenty seven workshop participants will learn to use DevInfo software.
DevInfo is an advanced and user-friendly database management system endorsed in 2006 by the UN to report on progress towards the Millennium Development Goals. It helps to analyze data for use in evidence-based decision making, as well as to reach out to a large and diverse audience through thematic advocacy. Specialists can use it to undertake results-based monitoring and evaluation.
Kyrgyzstan is the leading user of DevInfo in the Central Asia region. The National Statistics Committee plans to publish the 2007 demographic report in the DevInfo format. It means that the typical tables will be transformed into eye-catching, easy-to-read, electronic graphs, charts, maps and advanced tables, which allow data aggregation and provide more options for cross tabulation. In the future DevInfo, one of the most important tools of information sharing, will be recommended for use with all statistic publications in Kyrgyzstan.
