UNICEF in Kenya: A brief introduction

In 2009 UNICEF Kenya embarked on a new Country Programme of Co-operation with the Government of Kenya. The 2009 – 2013 Country Programme focuses on Child Survival and Development, Child Protection and Education and Young People.

Human Rights, including gender equality, participation and capacity development, social protection, and emergency preparedness, response, mitigation and early recovery cut across all three programmme areas.

UNICEF offices are located Nairobi, Garissa and Kisumu (covering Nyanza and Western Provinces). The programme includes cooperation in the areas of Child Survival and Development, Child Protection, and Education and Young People.

One additional programme, Policy, Planning, Advocacy and Communication, provides crosscutting support to all of the above. Its components are Social Policy and Planning, Advocacy and Partnerships, and Communication for Development (C4D).
