Programme Five: National Movement for Children and Monitoring of Rights

 

Project One: National Movement for Children

Project Objectives:

  1. Ensure the existence of mechanisms and channels informing decision-makers and opinion leaders about key priority issues for children and women with a focus on issues requiring policy development and legislative change in relation to the United Nations Special  Session on Children (UNSSC) follow-up.
     
  2. Ensure that a minimum of five local private sector companies contribute funds/in-kind in support of identified priority areas by the end of 2007.
     
  3. Ensure implementation of an Integrated Programme Communication Plan to support other programme components in raising awareness and behaviour change on key programme issues by 2007.


 Major Strategies:

  1. Role pattern analysis of key advocates, stakeholders and duty bearers.
  2. Strategic partnership building for the implementation of development programmes and for resource mobilisation with the Media, selected private sector organisations, and the Friends of Jordanian Children.
  3. Facilitation of linkages between partners identified above and other supported programmes, especially the policy development project related to each of these programmes.
  4. Linkage with the monitoring of rights programme and partnership building for legislative and administrative changes based on scientific research evidence.

Major Activities:

  1. Partnerships with the Friends of Jordanian Children on selected themes.
  2. Development of a fund-raising strategy and partnership framework,
  3. Supporting roundtable discussions and debate on the roles and responsibilities of the private sector in the development process
  4. Providing high media visibility and exposure of specific events in conjunction with UNICEF.
  5. Use of timely and professional donor reports as marketing tools,
  6. Field visits for the donor community, media, UNICEF National Committees.
  7. Capacity building for media and youth on gender and key issues of the World Fit For Children (WFFC).
  8. Development of IEC material with a focus on behaviour change and awareness raising campaigns.
  9. Support to innovative approaches to advocate for children’s and women’s rights, (e.g., sponsorship of printing key messages through innovative means such as on bills, books or other means).

Indicators for verification of achievement:

  • Existence of mechanisms and channels for informing decision-makers and opinion leaders about key priority issues for children and women; criteria must be defined for "existence".
  • Number of legislations amended through advocacy efforts of the Friends of Jordanian Children and other pressure groups formed.
  • Integrated communication plan is available for the five years by the first quarter of the cycle/Integrated communication plan is available yearly.
  • Percentage of Other Resources (OR) funds raised/percentage of OR funds locally raised by the end of 2007; number of local partners contributing to OR over the period 2003-2007.
