Programme One: Integrated Early Childhood Development (IECD)

 

Project Two: Community Care for the Young

Project Objectives:

  1. Ensure that the percentage of children (0-8 years) with access to quality IECD services increase from less than 10% to 50% in each of the three governorates by the end of 2007.
     
  2. Increase the percentage of caregivers having knowledge of at least 75% of key IECD practices in the 3 governorates from 3% to 15% by 2007.


Major Strategies:

  1. Capacity analysis of the various partners to identify gaps in service delivery and among the duty bearers.
  2. Establishment of a networking and institutional framework at the central government level, governorate level, and community level.
  3. Support to institutional frameworks working in IECD at the government, district, community and family levels.
  4. Linkages with other UNICEF-assisted projects especially in the areas of disabilities and protection in general and convergence of services in the areas supported by the Community Development Project.
  5. Support to better parenting sessions and capacity building of service providers (pre-school teachers, health workers, school teachers, social workers working with at-risk families, National Aid Fund’s social workers, NGOs and government staff working with female-headed families).

 

Major Activities:

  1. Training of facilitators (health workers, teachers, social workers, religious leaders, youth workers), representatives from 13 national partners and local NGOs.
  2. Research analysis, studies and workshops for the identification of key IECD practices.
  3. Workshops, technical assistance and roundtable discussions for the development of indicators and criteria for IECD practices.
  4. Baseline surveys in selected communities to identify key practices related to IECD among women and men.
  5. Provision of selected service delivery components to support the implementation of IECD initiatives.
    Supporting parenting educational sessions for both parents throughout Jordan.
