Project Two: Adolescent Knowledge and Development
Project Objectives:
- Ensure that the percentage of young boys and girls having knowledge of a minimum of ten key areas of basic life skills and healthy lifestyles, including smoke-free behaviour will increase from less than 10% to 25% for both boys and girls by the end of 2007.
- Ensure that the percentage of service providers working with adolescents who are equipped with the knowledge and skills to organize and implement participatory gender-sensitive programmes increases from less than 10% to 40% by 2007.
Major Strategies:
- Role pattern analysis to determine the strengths and weaknesses of stakeholders and duty bearers.
- Institutionalisation of training capacities and training of trainers for leaders and facilitators/ life skills for adolescents in schools, youth centres, communities and boarding institutions/ adjusting and developing in-depth training materials.
- Mainstreaming of training modules and training activities within the plans of the Higher Council for Youth and the Ministries of Education and Social Development, and in the curricula of teachers' education and universities.
Major Activities:
- Endorsement of criteria at the Ministry of Education for participatory education structures.
- Training of stakeholders working with adolescents.
- Training of adolescents and youth leaders.
- Support to youth camps and other frameworks for adolescent participation.
- Development of computer multi-media packages on basic life skills and healthy lifestyles.

Indicators for verification of achievement:
- Percentage of young girls and young boys in three governorates having knowledge about a minimum of ten out of fifteen key areas of basic life skills and healthy lifestyles.
- Number and percentage of Ministry of Education staff trained on basic life skills and healthy lifestyles training.
- Number of schools involved in participatory teaching structures. according to criteria adopted by the Ministry of Education.
- Number of training material developed and disseminated.
- Number of computer packages used by adolescents.
- Organisation has endorsed a new management and planning structure that focuses on basic life skills and healthy life styles (for NIT, HCY, MOE and other organisations).
