ADVOCACY, PUBLIC POLICY AND PARTNERSHIPS
The Jamaica Coalition on the Rights of the Child is an NGO which works to monitor and implement the Convention on the Rights of the Child nationally in Jamaica.
The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Finance which has the mission of leading the process of policy formulation of economic and social issues and external cooperation management to achieve sustainable development for the people of Jamaica.
The Child Development Agency (CDA) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Health and represents an amalgamation of the Children’s Services Division, the Adoption Board and the Child Support Unit. The CDA will execute the mandate of the Child Care and Protection Act (2004). http://www.cda.gov.jm/
The Jamaica Foundation for Children (JFC) provides the only helpline for children and their parents in Jamaica, giving children and opportunity to have their voices heard in a non threatening and supportive environment, geared at meeting their development needs. They host annually the Children’s Expo where a number of agencies that work with Children (Government, NGO and private sector) come together to showcase their work, and is one of the largest national activities that provides opportunities for children's participation. They work closely with NGOS and GoJ service providers in the production of the Directory of Services for Children.
UNICEF has enjoyed the support of the local media – radio, television and print - in its activities. At present, Radio Jamaica (RJR) is a UNICEF partner, producing a 15 minute programme “Let’s Talk Parenting” which is aired twice weekly.
