Governmental and infrastructural challenges of children’s NGOs
Government performance and structural and infrastructure challenges are the main problems of Children’s NGOs in Iran. Dr. Fatemeh Ghasemzadeh, member of scientific board of faculty of psychology chaired September’s lecture in UNICEF Iran. She numerated several factors as external challenges of NGOS, among them complexities for registering NGOs, uncertainties in the way of their cooperation with the government sector, involvement of too many government organizations in registering NGOs, lack of proper grounds for expansion of NGOs and unstable management in governmental organizations. Dr. Ghasemzadeh added: “all such challenges have disabled children’s NGOs in Iran from playing the role they’re expected to play.” Elaborating on the internal challenges of such organizations, Dr. Ghasemzadeh referred to weak management in such organizations and said: “weak management, pre-determined management posts, and inexperienced managers are among main problems in this regard.” The University professor termed lack of exchange of information between NGOs, and governmental as well as international organizations as internal problems of children NGOs. Referring to communication with people, Dr. Ghasemzadeh said:” insufficient public information on the goals and plans of NGOs, short number of NGO members and their inability to mobilize people has restricted the relationship between these organizations and people. In another part of her speech, Dr. Ghasemzadeh referred to the role of NGOs in the society and said:” contributing to the expansion of humanity, cooperation with government and providing successful patterns in protecting children are among the most important roles Children NGOs could play.” It should be noted that in the beginning of the session, Omid Vaslechi, UNICEF youth volunteer, representing the youth volunteers, called for more involvement of children in forwarding the goals of children NGOs. He said:” It is better for every organization which acts to improve the situation of children in society, to have a number of child members.”
