Iranian Animation Wins UNICEF Regional Media Award
Tehran 11 Oct, 2011 – At its annual media forum, focusing this year on ‘Violence against Children’, UNICEF’s Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) discussed with media and development professionals the impact of the Arab Spring on children.
At the one-day Dubai meeting, media, humanitarian and development experts talked about how young people have been represented during the Arab Spring and the role of media and the development community in placing children’s issues at the heart of the reform agenda.
The meeting was also an opportunity to announce the winners of UNICEF’s Regional Media Award and to announce next year’s them: Children in MENA: Rights and Challenges.
“The media award is an opportunity for media stakeholders from various Middle-East and North Africa countries to unite for children on a specific subject once a year and bring it to the spotlight”, said UNICEF Iran Officer-in-Charge, Anna Riatti
The seven final winners of this year’s award were selected in different categories of Electronic Media, TV, Radio, Photography, Print Media and Caricature.
Iranian movie director, Aslan Shahebrahimi, won the special award for his animation called ”Ruler” which pictured in a touching and impressive way a child exposed to corporal punishment by parents, a kind of physical violence against children.
“I am very happy that I won my first international award from a UNICEF festival”, said the winner movie director, Mr. Shahebrahimi,”I hope such festivals receive more entries from Iran in future.”
The awards were distributed by UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Shahida Azfar and UNICEF’s Region Goodwill Ambassador, Egyptian actor Mahmoud Kabil.
