Meet the Winners of the ‘Excluded and Invisible’ photo competition

In 2005, UNICEF, the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Youn Adults (Kanoon) and UNHCR held a photography competition for children around the country. The theme of the competition was ‘Excluded and Invisible Children’. Here, the top three photographers tell us about themselves and their winning photos.

What do you and your friends do in your spare time? Play sports, especially football
What is the message of your photo? My photo shows the conditions that children are living with in refugee camps.
If you could make a wish that would come true right now, what would it be? I wish I were a doctor or an engineer.

What do you and your friends do in your spare time? Play football
What is the message of your photo? My photo shows that many children in Bam play in dirt and mud instead of in places with better facilities.
If you could make a wish that would come true right now, what would it be? To make a pilgrimage to Mecca.

What do you and your friends do in your spare time? Read good books
What is the message of your photo? The message is that people who can live with the minimum facilities, although these people have many problems.
If you could make a wish that would come true right now, what would it be? That my country (Afghanistan) regains its freedom.

The photos will be exhibited in Bander Abbas from 4-8 March and in Orumieh from 12-16 March 2006. The exhibit has already been shown in Tehran, Bam and Zahedan. For more details please contact us at tehran@unicef.org or 021 2259-4994.
