My Role Model

More than 150 girls participated in a drawing competition in celebration of Iranian Women's Day.
UNICEF celebrated Iranian Women’s Day on 27 July 2005 by holding a drawing competition for children in Tehran and Bam as well as a panel discussion, a photo exhibition and a traditional music performance. Iranian Women's Day falls on the birthday of Hazrat Fatimeh, the daughter of the Prophet Mohammad.

The theme of the drawing competition was: “The woman who is my Role Model.” Each participant was asked to explain why they had chosen their subject and winners were chosen in both Tehran and Bam.

A role model can be defined as someone whose behaviour is admired and imitated by others.

The best drawings were chosen in each age group, but every participant was a winner!
One of the Tehran prize winners, 13-year-old Parisa Majzoob, explained her drawing. “I drew a sun, which shows my mother, and a moon, which symbolizes me, a child. The sun gives light to the moon just like the mother gives love to a child.”

Another girl, Narges Assadi Azad, chose a popular Iranian actress as the subject of her drawing. “I chose Parastou Salehi,” she said, “because I love her acting and her personality, and I like to copy her mannerisms.”
