TV stars helped celebrate Iranian Children's Day at UNICEF.
"Children from all nationalities should be united."

That’s according to 10-year-old Niloufar, one of 50 children visiting UNICEF offices in Tehran to celebrate Iranian Children’s Day.

Niloufar was speaking after watching a selection of short cartoons about children’s rights, based on the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

To help entertain and surprise the children, popular actresses and actors from Iranian television also participated in the event, including Rambod Javan, Mahtab Keramati, Lili Rashidi and Negar Estakhr.

“A child is like a tree which needs attention and care to grow,” said Ali, 14, when asked about the needs of children.

Zahra Saberi, a 10-year-old student in Bam, stands proudly by her painting.
In Bam, UNICEF staff organized a day of activities for children who attend their recreational centres. They met staff members, were given a tour of the office, and viewed several presentations on what UNICEF does in Bam and in Iran.

To practise their drawing skills, they then took part in a mural competition with the help of an artist from Kanoon, one of UNICEF’s key partners in Iran. The theme of the mural was the needs of Bam's children.

"Having a family is a child's right," wrote 12-year-old Laleh Sabzevari, on her painting.

Throughout the event the children took pictures with digital cameras provided by UNICEF.

In support of Iranian Children’s Day, UNICEF also printed 10,000 posters on the main articles on the Convention of the Rights of the Child and 4,000 brochures in child friendly language. These were distributed to centres belonging to the State Welfare Organization and to schools all over the country.
