On the occasion of World AIDS Day 2007, UNICEF Iran is supporting the conceptual art exhibition “Positive City” in Tehran’s Laleh Park. The exhibition has been organized by the Iranian non-governmental organization, AIRSA, as well as a number of other governmental and non-governmental organizations including Tehran municipality, Iran’s Centre for Disease Control, UNAIDS and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The exhibition, which forms part of the global campaign on HIV/AIDS “Take the Lead!” will be held in the Crisis Management Hall in the Laleh Park and will run from 2 to 8 December. Linking art with public advocacy, the project aims to further increase awareness for HIV/AIDS prevention and to foster a discussion about the stigma and discrimination faced by people living with the virus.
The conceptual art exhibition will have all the various elements of a real city, including schools, a coffee shop and even an “Altar of love”. In each of these installations, one of the aspects of HIV/AIDS will be put on display, together with suggestions for ways how to address the problem.

Voluntary Confidential and Counseling Test Centers (VCCT)
The HIV/AIDS Voluntary and Confidential Counseling Centers were set up to provide voluntary testing and counseling to at-risk people and providing those testing positive with the necessary services.
All individuals at risk of HIV/AIDS including the spouses of HIV positive people are initially offered voluntary counseling aimed at risk assessment and are then provided with appropriate risk reduction counseling. Risk reduction resources such as condoms are available to them and they are encouraged to discuss issues relating to sexuality and pregnancy with the counselors. Sexual transmission of HIV is also addressed and early diagnosis and treatment of STDs promoted.
