WHY: The final countdown to the eradication of polio is about to begin
- but steadfast political will and renewed donor support are needed
to reach a polio-free world.
The Summit will bring key leaders in the eradication campaign together
to ignite the commitment needed in this final, crucial phase. Prior
to their substantive meeting they will set in motion the Countdown Clock
- signalling to the world that the time to conquer polio is now.

donated Countdown Clock, which will track the time to a polio-free world.

SUMMIT MEETING of POLIO PARTNERS
Conference Room 2
More than 150 leaders from the public and private sectors - including
development ministers, heads of development agencies, UN ambassadors
and corporate presidents - will attend the Summit to review progress
toward polio eradication and recommit to certifying the world polio-free
by the end of 2005.
Agency heads will present the Strategic Plan for Polio Eradication
and Certification for 2001-2005. Summit participants will pledge to
support the strategies needed to overcome the key challenges that remain.
