DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, 1 July 2004 – UNICEF’s immunization campaign in Djibouti will benefit from a generous cash injection from Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of the Board of Dubai Aid City (a logistical facility supporting international humanitarian aid efforts).

Sultan Bin Sulayem presented a $100,000 cheque to UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy and UNICEF Djibouti Representative Keith McKenzie at the opening of the UNICEF Global Consultation in Dubai.

“On behalf of the Dubai government it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Dubai. Cooperation between the UAE [United Arab Emirates] and UNICEF dates back to the early seventies, and we highly appreciate your friendship and cooperation,” Sultan Bin Sulayem told a gathering of UNICEF Representatives.

“Today, as a small gesture of our appreciation of your work, we would like to present you with this cheque for $100,000 for immunization programmes in Djibouti,” he said.

Carol Bellamy thanked Sultan Bin Sulayem, adding: “We assure you that the immunization campaign is a very strong and good one.”

Sultan Bin Sulayem, who was accompanied by Barbara Castek, Head of Dubai Aid City, said they would like to further strengthen their relationship with UNICEF by helping Iraqi children get back to school.
