One Week Later, Veneman Returns to Africa
27 February 2006 – In a joint UN mission to highlight the suffering of millions of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees, UNICEF Executive Director Ann M. Veneman this weekend flew to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as the first leg of a six-day mission to the Great Lakes region of Africa. She joined James Morris, Executive Director of the World Food Programme and UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres as the mission underlines the importance of closer cooperation and coordination between the three agencies. The delegation will also visit Rwanda and Burundi, ending the trip on 2 March.
