Bihar: The RYTHM (Raise Yourself to Help Mankind) Foundation donated $30,000 towards UNICEF’s Water and Sanitation programme in the flood-affected districts of Bihar.

The affect of devastating floods in 2008 in North Bihar are still being felt today, almost six-months after flood waters ravaged the districts of Supaul, Saharsa, Araria, Madhepura and Purnia.

RYTHM Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Hong Kong-headquartered QI Group and its flagship subsidiary QuestNet, was established in 2005 to support the corporation’s commitment to disaster mitigation, children, poverty elimination and environment across the globe.

The resulting destruction led to the displacement of almost 4.57 million people, as well as damage of essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water supply systems and schools. UNICEF has been supporting the Government of Bihar and other civil society partners in the area of water and sanitation, child protection, child development and nutrition, HIV, education and health to rehabilitate people who live in marooned areas.

RYTHM Foundation Trustee, Mr. Bernhard H. Mayer officially presented a cheque to UNICEF Field Office Chief, Patna, Mr. Bijaya Rajbhandari, on February 17, 2009, to support various flood-related emergency programmes in the affected districts.

A shared concern for children, especially in the light of floods in North Bihar, brings both UNICEF and RYTHM Foundation on a common platform to support rehabilitation in the state.
