Nutrition Officer (Temporary Appointment)

Location: Lucknow 
Duration  364 Days

Purpose of the post:

Under the overall guidance of Nutrition Specialist, UNICEF Office for Uttar Pradesh, the Nutrition Officer contributes to the overall implementation of country programme at the state level.  The Nutrition Officer takes responsibility for extending technical assistance in planning, implementing, monitoring interventions and analyzing data to support system strengthening and promotion of childhood nutrition through Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and Health programmes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:-

Programme Implementation

In focus districts provides timely and state of the art technical support to ICDS and NGO partners to contribute to  system strengthening and quality improvement to ensure continuity, effectiveness and sustainability of interventions in the areas of infant and young child feeding & care and feeding & quality care of children with severe acute malnutrition.

Building Partnerships

In focus districts collaborates with the government and NGO to provide technical assistance and evidence-based support to the implementing partners at division and district level to contribute to the development and/or introduction of new approaches, methods and practices in project management at district and block levels.

Capacity Building and technical assistance for Government

Identifies training needs of frontline functionaries of ICDS, Health and Education with reference to scaling up of high impact nutrition interventions and supports government authorities and NGO partners.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Undertakes regular field visits to monitor programmes (including cash and supply assistance), as well as conducting periodic programme reviews with government counterparts, other partners and UNICEF supported field technical staff. Contributes to the identification and recommendation of necessary actions for adjustments in the Child Nutrition and Development programme.

Analysis and Report Writing

Collates and analyses status reports from the field and documents success stories required for state level management, programme analysis, case studies, etc.

Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:

• University degree in Nutrition/Public Health or modern systems of Medicine. In-depth understanding and knowledge of nutrition and development sectors required.
• One year of relevant professional work experience preferably in child development and nutrition at state level, project administration, monitoring and evaluation.
• Fluency in English and Hindi (written and spoken) required.

  Other Skills And Attributes

• Analytical, communication and advocacy skills
• Teamwork abilities with demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Computer skills including computer based word processing, presentations and statistical analysis.
• Ability to write reports in English.
