Declaration to improve child survival and reduce preventable child deaths in India

Declaration 1

SUMMIT: February 7-9, 2013, Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu Declaration 1

I as Director General, and Chief Executive Officer, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) hereby declare that being an autonomous body under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, IICA will facilitate the efforts of corporate entities who undertake development initiatives that would have immediate benefits for Child Survival and Development.

The vulnerability and special needs of the children of the developing countries deserve priority and need promotion in all States, through national action and international co-operation. IICA promises to initiate all the necessary actions related to this and also would appeal and encourage the Corporate India to support this cause.

Civil Society Organizations and Faith Based Organizations We the Civil Society Organisations (CSO) and Faith Based Organisations
(FBO) are committing to the acceleration of the Child Survival and Development efforts in India. We pledge to contribute to the Goals of Government of India in reducing infant mortality rate, maternal mortality ratio and total fertility rate.

We promise to work actively towards developing an enabling social and behavioural environment through integrated efforts including effective convergence, advocacy, capacity development, behaviour change communication, monitoring impact, promoting equity and mobilizing stakeholders that will ensure effective implementation of health interventions. We will hold ourselves accountable to these shared commitments and people's aspiration to enable all children of India to live and thrive.

Indian Academy of Paediatrics

To improve child survival and reduce preventable child deaths in India, IAP takes the pledge that all its members shall:

Promote exclusive breastfeeding of all infants up to 6 months of age and ensure appropriate nutrition throughout childhood and adolescence.

Promote immunization of newborns, children and adolescents with recommended vaccines.

Work against child abuse, child labor and all types of violence against children.

Commit ourselves to the advocacy and practice of ORS and Zinc supplementation in diarrhea.

Take all steps to identify a malnourished child and institute immediate remedial measures.

Prevent and treat all childhood diseases with a rational and evidence based approach.

Address the needs of adolescents and work for their development into responsible citizens of India.

Actively participate in all health programs of the Government of India and Indian Academy of Pediatrics for betterment of child health.

Cooperate with fraternity members for a collective and sustained action and mutual accountability.
