Launch of UNICEF and Archies Partnership: Send a Card, Save a Child

NEW DELHI, India, September 8, 2011 -
UNICEF has entered into a partnership with Archies Ltd., leader in manufacturing and distribution of greeting cards and stationery products across India. To mark the occasion, Ms. Karin Hulshof, Representative, UNICEF India and Mr. Anil Moolchandani, Chairman, Archies Ltd., unveiled a range of colourful greeting cards, calendars and diaries at the UNICEF India office in New Delhi today.

“In this digital age of emails and text messages, exchanging greeting cards is a unique and powerful way to communicate.  We are excited about the vast potential of this partnership that will turn the simple act of buying a card or a calendar for your loved one into a contribution to UNICEF’s efforts to save a child’s life. At the same time, it is also an opportunity to engage with the growing middle class in India – the majority of Archies’s clientele – to help ensure that the survival, growth and development of the most vulnerable children in India are on everybody’s agenda,” said Ms. Hulshof during the launch ceremony.

Under the partnership, UNICEF and Archies have entered into a licensing agreement to produce and distribute UNICEF cards and paper products through Archies’s vast retail network of 222 outlets in 66 cities and 15 states.

Proceeds from the sale of these products will support UNICEF’s work towards fulfilling the rights of all children in India - their right to survival, to development, to education and to protection from violence, exploitation and abuse.

“This event marks yet another milestone in our brand history. I am certain with our wide network on outlets, partners and corporate sales teams at Archies, we will ensure that UNICEF products are sold widely and raise resources for the good work UNICEF is doing in India. I am also certain that our customers will like the designs and we will make sure they buy these products to make their contribution towards children,” said Mr. Anil Moolchandani, Chairman of Archies Ltd.

UNICEF and greeting cards go back a long way. First introduced way back in 1949, this was one of the first ways the organization raised funds for its programmes for children.  UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.
