Bihar: Almost 3.3 million people have been affected by the floods in Bihar and about 300,000 houses have been destroyed, causing a humanitarian crisis of unforeseen dimensions.

Those displaced by the floods are not expected to be able to return to their homes for many months to come and until then will need to stay in relief camps.  The increasing number of people reaching these camps is resulting in overcrowding, which could lead to the spread of communicable diseases.

UNICEF is working to meet the most pressing health, nutrition, water and sanitation needs of the population, collaborating with the Government, NGOs, sister UN agencies and other partners in the relief operations.  However, there is a huge challenge to provide essential supplies and immediate assistance is required to help the increasing number of people being affected.

Your contribution to UNICEF will go a long way in helping the most vulnerable women and children affected by the floods in Bihar.
