  • Entered the village at 9:30 a.m.
  • Met with Dilip Kumar, Panchayat teacher and other teachers
  • Set up truck and made the announcements
  • Approx. 250 – 275 people gathered.

    Pramod Kumar, teacher: “The way UNICEF runs campaigns for polio, in the same way it can run campaigns for education.”

    Vineeta Kumari, teacher: “Because parents are uneducated, they feel that educating girls is a waste of time; it is better for them to work at home and later get married.”

    Programme ended at 2:30 p.m.

    Village Damodarpur, Block Kanti, District Muzaffarpur

  • Arrived in the village at approx. 3:30 p.m.
  • Met with health department worker Krishan Chand Mishra, ex-mukhiya Rajeshwar Prasad Gupta and anganwadi worker Poona Devi.
  • Set up truck and made the announcements.
  • Approximately 200 people collected

    Ritu Kumari, student: “When girls go to school, villagers pass comments, so their parents are afraid of sending them to school”.

    Varsha Kumari, student: “Rich kids made fun of poor children at school.”
