Education Specialist - Social Inclusion

Major Duties and Responsibilities:-

1. Lead the analysis and strategies on the variety of dimensions of social inclusion and diversity in education, including gender, SC/ST, minorities, children with disabilities and promote child-friendly schools and systems.
2. Propose specific programmatic approaches to overcome exclusion and reduce disparities in education and support state offices in their implementation, undertaking field visits to.
3. Manage knowledge related to social inclusion and diversity, undertaking qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and guiding academic and action research on these issues.
4. Keep abreast of UNICEF/GOI policies and national/international experience in the field of social inclusion and disparity reduction in education. Develop, coordinate and implement advocacy strategies and activities to influence government education counterparts, political and community leaders and civil society etc. for increasing awareness, budget allocation and action for improving social inclusion and disparity reduction.
5. Provide support for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of work plan activities related to social inclusion and diversity under Education programmes.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies required: -
• Master’s degree in Education/ Social Sciences/ Social Work/ Sociology.
• Minimum five years experience in education or social development programming, research and evaluation, advocacy, with an emphasis on social inclusion and diversity issues. Demonstrated ability in development and production of proposals, documents, training plans, materials etc.
• Fluency in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of local language of the duty station an asset.
• Communication skills to advocate, negotiating and promote UNICEF’s concerns, training skills, and ability to plan and organize.
• Clear understanding of social inclusion and diversity issues in national and international context and ability to conceptualize appropriate responses to reduce disparities
• Ability to draft clearly and concisely in English
• Ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information
• Knowledge and use of standard office automation applications related to word processing, graphics presentations etc. as well as Management Information Systems and databases. Knowledge and training on use of work planning tools an asset.
• Current knowledge of development issues, policies, as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation.
• Drive for result.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to work harmoniously in an international and multi-cultural environment.
