Begun in 1998, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative is an inspiring example of what can be done when countries across the globe work together against a common enemy. The book, which focuses on the enormous dedication of volunteers and professionals to overcome obstacles to achieving eradication in five African and Asian countries, includes a foreword by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and an essay by Dr. Ciro de Quadros, one of the architects of the campaign.
