Nigeria, 1991

Nigeria’s population, the second largest in Africa, together with its territorial vastness, underscore the challenge of implementing and maintaining an effective cold chain to ensure the safe delivery of vaccines to remote regions. Yet, by 1990, Nigeria attained the EPI goal of 80 per cent immunization coverage of Nigerian children under two against six major diseases. This essay documents the delivery of vaccines from nation and state warehouses to children in a village.
