Global Capacity Development Programme on Child-Friendly Schools

UNICEF's Education Section in New York has prepared a capacity development programme on child-friendly schools (CFS) that supports countries in designing and implementing CFS models that are most appropriate for their specific circumstances. By identifying key principles and outlining common practices – as well as highlighting effective approaches, documenting success and compiling lessons learned – UNICEF seeks to comprehensively bring together currently existing resources and information on CFS.

The Global Capacity Development Programme on CFS includes such resources as:

  • The Child-Friendly Schools Manual
  • Modules, accompanying the Manual, on climate change and environmental education; water, sanitation and hygiene, LSBE, child rights, and child social and financial education
  • CFS e-learning package
  • Capacity development workshops
  • Resource packages on environmental issues, life skills-based education (LSBE)
  • Cooperation agreements for integrating CFS into Teacher Training Institute (TTI) curricula
  • CFS country case studies
  • Global evaluation of CFS: Evaluation Report | Executive Summary [PDF
  • Education Policy and Strategy Simulation Model (EPSSim) training
