New pre-school education programme for Tbilisi kindergartens
On 6 October 2011 a presentation of the Tbilisi Pre-School Education Programme and Pre-school Management Strategy was held at the Ilia State University. The event was attended by Mr. Gigi Ugulava, Mayor of Tbilisi, H.E. Mr. Pieter J. Langenberg, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands, and Ms Nada Marasovic, UNICEF Deputy Representative.
On the initiative of the Tbilisi City Hall a new programme will be introduced in the pre-school education curriculum from the new academic year. The new programme consists of daily lessons based on the child development standards and was developed by the Ilia State University Pre-school Centre with UNICEF support. The programme aimed at developing child’s social, emotional, learning, speech, physical and creative skills and abilities. The programme will be piloted during the year and at the end of the academic year all pre-school directors and methodologists will be trained on introduction of the programme in kindergartens.
Pre-school Management Strategy – another important document has also been elaborated by the Tbilisi City Hall aimed at developing the preschool system and services. The objective of the strategy is to create the child-oriented environment in preschool establishments. The document regulates such issues as documentation required for child development and health, nutrition, hygiene, healthcare, inclusion of disabled children, family’s participation in the educational process, physical and social environment, etc. The last chapter of the document presents the strategy for practical implementation of all the above issues.
