Riyadh – Saudi Arabia - Marking a new dimension in its cooperation with Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz, Honorary Assistant Secretary General and UNICEF’s Special Envoy opens UNICEF’s first office in Riyadh on April 6, 1981.

Partnership with AGFUND

The Arab Gulf Programme for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND) is a prominent partner with its President, HRH Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz, who initiated the programme and advocated the cause of women and children. In 1980 Prince Talal was appointed the Special Envoy for UNICEF. Since its creation, AGFUND had offered more than US80 million dollars in support to UNICEF programmes in more than 50 countries of the third world. AGFUND funded around 100 programmes which helped in improving sectors such as health, education, water and sanitation, nutrition or vocational training, etc.
