The Gambia is one of the smallest African countries both geographically and population wise. With an estimated population of about 1.88 million (National Census 2013), national data reveals that about 50 per cent of this figure is children and youth under 18 (National Population Census, 2013).

By working with children, UNICEF therefore caters directly for half of The Gambia’s population, who equally constitute a large and significant part of the country’s development structure.
