The Children
The Gambia is one of the smallest African countries both geographically and population wise. With an estimated population of just over 1.7 million (SOWCR, 2009), national statistics/census reveals that about 50 percent of this figure is children and youth under 18. Thus, UNICEF directly caters to half of The Gambia’s population – the children. They constitute a vital and large sector for the country’s development.
